Thermostat Replacement
The thermostat regulates the flow of coolant between the engine and the radiator. If it fails, the engine will either overheat (risking catastrophic damage) or fail to reach operating temperature, leading to high fuel consumption and increased engine wear.
Signs of a faulty thermostat:

The temperature gauge moves into the "red zone."

The engine takes an unusually long time to warm up or cools down while driving.

The car heater blows only lukewarm air.

The lower radiator hose stays cold even when the engine is overheating.
