Differential / Gearbox Fluid Change
The differential transfers torque to the wheels and operates under high-friction conditions. Over time, the oil oxidizes and loses its ability to maintain a protective film on the gears, leading to whining noises and expensive axle repairs.
Signs that the fluid needs replacement:
-
A low-pitched humming or whining noise from the axle while driving.
-
Vibration during acceleration.
-
Visible oil leaks around the differential seals.
-
Frequent towing or driving in steep, mountainous terrain.
What is included in the service:
-
Cleaning the differential housing around the drain and fill plugs.
-
Draining the old fluid and inspecting it for metallic debris (an indicator of gear wear).
-
Cleaning the magnetic plug of metal shavings.
-
Replacing crush washers or applying specific thread sealant.
-
Refilling with fresh gear oil (typically GL-5 spec) according to the manufacturer's viscosity requirements.
-
Final fluid level check and inspection for seal leaks.
